Description
History is a wonderful teacher. Reading history has several benefits for us. First, it is entertaining. There are few pleasures in life equal to reading a good story. And this book brings us an amazing number of great stories. Secondly, these stories are inspiring. They help us look upward from our common day to day life to the God who inspired these men and women. These portraits of men and women of faith also inform us. They will help us as we attempt to discover what it means to be a faithful servant of Jesus Christ in the circumstances in which He has placed us. Every one of us is different, each one of us lives in a different situation, we are all unique in our gifts and our spiritual pilgrimages. But as we read and think about these stories, the Holy Spirit will use them to help us to be faithful. -Paul E. Pierson, Dean Emeritus School of Intercultural Studies Fuller Theological Seminary
